Kendall is finishing up her 2nd day of her 5 day treatment regimen. So far, she is tolerating the chemo pretty well. She has received two 7 hour infusions so far. Dr Edwards is taking excellent care of her and the nurses here at Carilion are awesome. Hopefully we can continue to control the side effects and keep her on track with this therapy. The anti-nausea medicine causes her to sleep a lot which is a good thing for her strength. She says hello and wants everyone to know she appreciates all of your prayers and love. Just wanted to let all of our Team Kendall supporters know that you are making a huge difference in Kendall’s fight to become cancer free. She and our family are so blessed to have so many friends and strangers encouraging her to stay the course and win this battle. Kendall and I had an amazing few days in Jackson Hole, Wyoming with First Descents. Kendall and I arrived the evening before so we could go sight seeing and we were able to visit Teton Nat’l Park and Yellowstone. The first day, the FD team got us outfitted and then we traveled to a lake to practice our maneuvers. The wet exit was our favorite where they would turn you over and count to five until we could undo ourselves from the kayak and return to the surface.  Sounds easy, but the water is a little bit chilly and it takes your breath, but it’s a skill you must have for when it turns over in the rapids and you are upside down. The next day we paddled 9 miles on the Snake River and even after turning over, Kendall would climb back in and start paddling. The majority of us would roll our kayak over that day. The next morning we changed our kayaks for a rubber ducky which is a rubber version of the kayak. We would go another 9 miles, but this day we tackled more difficult class 3-4 rapids. Kendall met this incredible 26 year old survivor who is a previous FD participant who has also battled cancer as a young adult. They have formed this incredible friendship, almost sister like, and are planning to stay in touch so she can help Kendall get through her treatments. It’s comforting to know others have done this and been successful and can be a support system during and after treatment. We are so blessed to have met Christina from Boston. Also, thanks to my company Genentech for partnering with FD and sending Kendall and I on this amazing trip. Kendall, you continue to smile and brighten our lives, hang in there, you can do this.

Kendall had her quarterly scans this week and unfortunately her cancer has appeared again at the original tumor site in her abdomen. Kendall knows this battle is not a sprint but more symbolic of a marathon. There will be ups and downs but with her courage and determination she will prevail and beat this disease. We are currently deciding on some treatments within the next few weeks. We know with your continued support, love and prayers, Kendall will be able to handle this next hurdle. We really do appreciate all of the Team Kendall supporters. Your encouragement and hope keeps her motivated during these difficult times. Kendall you amaze us everyday and we know you can do this. You truly are a blessing!

We met again with our Dr’s from Duke last week. Kendall had a pulmonary function test and we discussed our options moving forward. Because her lungs have been operated on, she is experiencing some shortness of breath. Our Dr has encouraged her to get her lungs in shape and working to their full potential. Depending on our next scans later this summer, we will then make her treatment decisions. Surgery again or begin some type of chemo/biological treatment. Until then, its time for her to be a teenager and enjoy the summer (Dr’s orders). Thank you all for the continued love and support. We really appreciate all the help and prayers.
