Kendall’s Karnival 2

Thanks to all of the student body and administration at Cave Spring High for having another awesome event for Kendall. We were so glad that Kendall’s labs were in the normal range  and she was allowed to be there to enjoy a great time and visit with her friends. We are truly blessed by all of the support from everyone in this community. You all have helped Kendall stay focused on getting better and beating cancer. Thanks for all of the volunteers that were there cutting hair, painting faces, painting nails, braiding hair and for the baked goods. It was really cool to see some of the students and teachers shave their heads to show support for Kendall. Seeing her laugh and smile is priceless and we want you all to know we appreciate it.  Connor thanks for being so strong and supporting your sister and allowing her to buzz your hair. You have helped us so much during these trying times. Kendall is scheduled to begin her second cycle on October 1st.  Take care and God Bless Team Kendall!

Best Friends Kendall & Connor

Crazy week!

A day after Kendall was home from the hospital she had a reaction to a shot that helps replenish her White Blood Cells.  She was taken to the ER for fluids and allowed to come home that afternoon. Then on Tuesday, she was seen by her Dr and it was determined that her electrolytes were low and was dehydrated. She was kept until her levels were within normal and sent home with IV fluids to keep her hydrated.  Friday she had her best day, but that was short lived. Saturday began with a high fever and a trip to ICU for antibiotics, fluids and other medicines.  Her temperature continues to go up and down and her blood counts are very low thanks to the chemo. She will remain in the hospital until her fever is gone and her blood counts are within normal. We knew this part of her therapy would not be easy, we just hope and pray it is killing her cancer cells. Stay strong Kendall, you’ll be home soon. We Love You! Mom, Dad & Connor.

Home and Resting

Kendall finished her last infusion on Saturday and was allowed to come home to recover. She has handled this first cycle pretty well other than the typical nausea associated with chemo and being exhausted. She is receiving a pretty tough regimen to kill these cancer cells. Thanks again to our medical team at Carilion for taking such good care of her during her stay. She continues to amaze us with her strength and positive attitude. Even though she has a long road ahead, we keep envisioning her destination of being cancer free. Kendall, stay strong, keep believing, you are doing great. You have so many people cheering you on. Go Team Kendall.

We Love you! Mom, Dad & Connor

Feeling ok

Kendall is finishing up her 2nd day of her 5 day treatment regimen. So far, she is tolerating the chemo pretty well. She has received two 7 hour infusions so far. Dr Edwards is taking excellent care of her and the nurses here at Carilion are awesome. Hopefully we can continue to control the side effects and keep her on track with this therapy. The anti-nausea medicine causes her to sleep a lot which is a good thing for her strength. She says hello and wants everyone to know she appreciates all of your prayers and love. Thanks again for loving Kendall and letting her know she is not alone in this fight. God Bless, The Bayne’s

Portacath Installed

Kendall had her portacath installed today at Carilion Hospital. The procedure took around 1 1/2 hours and she was allowed to come home early this afternoon. Thanks to Dr Wattsman for taking care of her today with this procedure. Kendall is doing good, just a bit sore as you can imagine. She received a few surprise messages today. One was from Head Football Coach Mike London of UVA who has been corresponding with Kendall since last August. The others came from Lance Armstrong and Doug Ullman of Livestrong with encouraging messages as well. Thanks for keeping her motivated to fight through this illness. Also, wanted to give thanks to the Cave Spring Wrestling team that jogged to our house yesterday to deliver team shirts(see below). Thanks guys and good luck this season. We are so thankful for all of our Team Kendall supporters. You really are making a difference in Kendall’s fight. Kendall we are so proud of you! Thanks again and God Bless.

Forever grateful,  The Bayne’s

Star Country 94.9 Cure Kids Cancer Radiothon

Kendall was asked to tell her story to help raise awareness and funds for Roanoke’s Carilion Pediatric Oncology program. Brett Sharp from Star Country interviewed Kendall as well as other kids in the Roanoke Valley for their two day radiothon for Cure Kids Cancer/Children’s Miracle Network.

Thanks again to all of the Team Kendall supporters who called and donated money to help kids who are treated here in Roanoke. Great job Star Country and a special thanks to Brett Sharp for making a difference in the fight to cure kids cancer. Below is a link of Kendall’s interview that was played on the radio. God Bless. Keep believing! Let’s find the cure! Go Team Kendall.

First Descents Program

Kendall and I had an amazing few days in Jackson Hole, Wyoming with First Descents. Kendall and I arrived the evening before so we could go sight seeing and we were able to visit Teton Nat’l Park and Yellowstone. The first day, the FD team got us outfitted and then we traveled to a lake to practice our maneuvers. The wet exit was our favorite where they would turn you over and count to five until we could undo ourselves from the kayak and return to the surface.  Sounds easy, but the water is a little bit chilly and it takes your breath, but it’s a skill you must have for when it turns over in the rapids and you are upside down. The next day we paddled 9 miles on the Snake River and even after turning over, Kendall would climb back in and start paddling. The majority of us would roll our kayak over that day. The next morning we changed our kayaks for a rubber ducky which is a rubber version of the kayak. We would go another 9 miles, but this day we tackled more difficult class 3-4 rapids. Kendall met this incredible 26 year old survivor who is a previous FD participant who has also battled cancer as a young adult. They have formed this incredible friendship, almost sister like, and are planning to stay in touch so she can help Kendall get through her treatments. It’s comforting to know others have done this and been successful and can be a support system during and after treatment. We are so blessed to have met Christina from Boston. Please check out First Descents website and spread the word about how amazing their program is. Thanks to Mr. Brad Ludden for your vision to help cancer patients with these outdoor programs. Also, thanks to my company Genentech for partnering with FD and sending Kendall and I on this amazing trip. Kendall, you continue to smile and brighten our lives, hang in there, you can do this.

Love, Dad, Mom, Connor and all of Team Kendall!

Keep Believing!

Kendall had her quarterly scans this week and unfortunately her cancer has appeared again at the original tumor site in her abdomen. Kendall knows this battle is not a sprint but more symbolic of a marathon. There will be ups and downs but with her courage and determination she will prevail and beat this disease. We are currently deciding on some treatments within the next few weeks. We know with your continued support, love and prayers, Kendall will be able to handle this next hurdle. We really do appreciate all of the Team Kendall supporters. Your encouragement and hope keeps her motivated during these difficult times. Kendall you amaze us everyday and we know you can do this. You truly are a blessing!

Stay Strong & Keep Believing!

We Love You! Mom, Dad, Connor and all of Team Kendall
