Traveling to Scottsdale, Arizona

Kendall and I will be leaving for Scottsdale, Arizona tomorrow to meet with Dr. Michael Demeure  who is the Director & Clinical Professor of Rare Cancers at TGEN which is a non-profit Biomedical Research Institute. We are still scheduled for surgery at Duke; however we hope this trip will shed some light on other therapies and potential clinical trials after Kendall recovers from her next surgery. Thank you all for the continued love and support for Kendall. We are so blessed that everyone has gotten involved and made a difference in this journey. Take care and we wish all of you health and happiness this holiday season. Jere Bayne

Thank You Radford Bobcats

Thank you for the support you showed us at the game last night. We really appreciate all of you and want you to know how much it means to our family that Team Kendall continues to gain new friends and love. We are so blessed that communities like yourself are fighting along side Kendall to beat this disease. Your school should be so proud.  Special thanks to my good friend, Coach Jeff Little, and the entire Radford coaching staff for allowing your players to wear the Team Kendall shirts for warmups. Thanks to the boosters for donating the 50/50 funds to Kendall and a big thanks to Mr. Frank Taylor for donating his winning amount. Good luck on a successful season.  It was so special to see both teams come together at the end of the game. Thanks Cave Spring & Radford. The Baynes

Surgery update

Today we visited Duke for her follow up appointments. Her CT scan did not show any new disease and she continues to improve physically from her last surgery. Although we know there is some disease in her right lung, it is asymptomatic and we are scheduled to operate and remove it January 6th. We will continue to watch for any symptoms, but this will allow her to fully heal and enjoy the holidays before returning to Duke. She plans on going to school part time to be with her friends. Thanks again for everyones support. We appreciate it greatly. The Baynes

Thank You Blacksburg High School

Even though we’ve never met any of these wonderful kids, not only did they raise money for Kendall, they continue to support her and we couldn’t be more touched. Special thanks to David Hirsch and Hailey Porth for all of your hard work making this video. Thank you Blacksburg High School!

Feeling Better

Kendall is up and moving around and has even gone to Bojangles to get her favorite biscuit.  She continues to get stronger and her appetite is getting back to normal.  Her incisions have healed nicely and she continues to walk to get her lung back to full capacity. Thanks again for everyones help and prayers. It is so nice and comforting to know that you all are still supporting us. We will have a follow up appointment on the 17th at Duke to check on her recovery and then we will decide our next treatment plan. Take care and thank you so much,  The Baynes

Home Sweet Home

Thanks so much to the great nurses on the Thoracic Stepdown unit at Duke. Especially Krystle and Emily. All of the nurses on the floor helped make this an easier ordeal with the special care you gave to Kendall. Thanks again to Dr D’Amico and his talented team for helping Kendall with her illness.  After her x-ray today they released Kendall to go home.  They feel her lung will fully expand on its own and heal itself. She will be resting for the next couple of weeks and will return to Duke for a follow up appointment. At this time we will decide her next move towards becoming cancer free. For all of you supporting Team Kendall, we felt your presence with us in our time of need. It is so comforting to know we are not alone in this fight. God Bless you all. It’s because of your encouragement that we are able to stay strong and Fight Like A Knight. Godspeed, The Baynes

Still here

Well, we had hoped we would be back in Roanoke today. Everything was moving on track for us to be discharged. However, after her chest xray this afternoon, they noticed her lung was not fully expanded and they want to make sure there is no leak from the surgery. Sometimes this can happen when the tube is removed or there is a small leak from the staples. So another night here at Duke.  She will increase her walking distance and breathing with her spirometer to see if her lungs will fix this on their own. She will have another xray tomorrow to show her progress. Small step back, but after the dust has settled, she is still determined to get back home soon. Thanks again for everyones support.
